Groundbreaking for a new fire station and instructional center in the Las Vegas Valley took place on Wednesday.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Station 6 is located at the CSN Charleston campus.

Along with the station, there will be 4,600-square feet of general classroom space for CSN students. College enrollment has grown 15 percent in the last three years.

The center will also help Bonanza High School students.

“And they'll be working with Bonanza High School. The chief has already been working on an opportunity to expand educational opportunities to see how the high school students can get an early interest in the fire service," said Patty Charlton, of CSN Finance & Facilities.

The facility is scheduled to open next fall. It will cost $7 million to build.
