There was a large turnout and no lack of opinions at a Las Vegas health care reform town hall meeting Friday night.

The hot-button issue has sparked controversy nationwide, with some town hall meetings getting confrontational.

More than 2,000 people packed Stoney’s Bar Friday for a chance to have their voices heard. It was a packed house, full of opinions and no shortage of passion.

The town hall meeting, led by conservative KDWN radio host Heidi Harris, was attended largely by residents opposed to President Barack Obama's health care reform plan. They said they were mostly opposed to the president's plan to control the rising cost of health care and provide health insurance to the 47 million Americans who aren't covered.

“It's very scary. It could collapse our medical system, and it can collapse our economy,” said Las Vegas family physician Dr. Daliah Wachs.

Wachs said she is afraid of what the reform could do to her practice and her patients.

“We're predicting longer wait times, less access to vaccines, less access to medicines,” Wachs said.

But not everybody in the room was against the plan. Though substantially outnumbered, their voices didn't go unheard.

“I think everybody in this room tonight (are) the only people in Clark County who are not supportive of reforming health care, because I've been talking to people for weeks, and all I hear are people who want to reform health care,” said resident Laura Martin.

No elected state officials were in attendance, but Sen. Harry Reid's office released this statement Friday night:

“The senator has already listened to the concerns and support of Nevadans and looks forward to doing so again when he hosts a town hall meeting later this month."

“People get angry. People get frustrated. And I understand, because you're asking questions. ‘Oh, I won't vote for a bill,’ -- but what were you prepared to vote on before August 8?” asked Las Vegas resident Maile Gabriel.
