LAS VEGAS -- The United States Postal Service is considering closing five Las Vegas-area post offices in an effort to combat falling revenues nationwide.Post offices being studied in southern Nevada are at the following locations:Desert Inn Retail Unit, 2478 Desert Inn Rd. Garside Station, 1801 S Decatur Blvd. Huntridge Station, 3115 E. Olive St. King Station, 1801 N Martin Luther King Rd. Strip Station, 3100 S. Industrial Rd. Officials said a total of 3,100 post offices could be closed as the agency deals with an “unprecedented” 15 percent drop in volume and workload. Losses are expected to top $6.5 billion in 2009.Las Vegans can leave comments about the possible closures at the affected post offices.Monday’s announcement did not mention layoffs at the Postal Service.
