LAS VEGAS -- Trial began Wednesday for a man accused of injuring five people in a shooting spree at New York-New York Casino last July. Prosecutors showed violent surveillance video to the jury.It was an emotional day for shooting victims, who described what they went through that day.The video showed panic in the casino, as a crowd sprints from the shooter and ducks for cover. Police said four people were shot, and one was trampled. They said they believe Steven Zegrean is the man in the video who opened fire."You hear, ‘Pop! Pop! Pop! I realized I was shot," said shooting victim Carrie Zeravicka.Everyone scrambled for an exit, but one man said he couldn't make it away fast enough."I tried to run … felt like I was being burned," said shooting victim Troy Sanchez.“The shooting stopped after he ran out of bullets. Then he turned and looked at me. We're looking at each other eye-to-eye," said witness David James. The suspect began to reload his weapon, when a Good Samaritan attacked him from behind, taking him to the ground. The two struggled, and then James said he went over and kicked the gun away."He said, ‘Hold him down. Hold him down. This is the guy. This is the guy,’" James said.During testimony, Zegrean showed little emotion as both sides fired off questions to witnesses. He pleaded not guilty to 52 criminal charges.Zegrean said he was distraught over losing his job, and he wanted to create a panic to get shot and killed by police. The trial will continue at 10 a.m. Thursday, and FOX5 News will be in the courtroom.
