LAS VEGAS -- It pays to be creative, so a group of Las Vegans are getting creative to get paid. After spending the past eight months pounding the pavement in a frustrating and sometimes hopeless job search, a team of unemployed advertising workers and graphic designers spent Thursday morning looking for work at the corner of Eastern and Serene Avenues.“When it comes to advertising, that’s one of the first things to get cut,” said participant Thomas Jackman. “There’s not a lot of jobs. We’re just trying to make ends meet.”Survey: Have You Or Someone You Know Lost A Job In The Last Year?Holding signs that read “Will create for food,” the group is determined to find new clients during a recession that has led to record unemployment.“A bunch of us were just sitting around at lunch and realized we are just a lot of talents being wasted,” Jackman said, admitting it took “hard times” before the group decided to band together and try new tactics.
Dream Team Feature: Drafting The Perfect ResumeThe strategy paid off last month when the street corner rally landed the group a new client. They plan to hold monthly rallies until they find permanent work.
