LAS VEGAS -- Southern Nevadans are expected to hit the road this Fourth of July holiday, according to the American Automobile Association.Survey: What's Your Fourth Of July Plan? The agency estimates 2.5 million people in the Mountain West plan to travel this upcoming weekend. That’s a 1.2 percent increase from 2008.The majority of traveling will be on the road, AAA said. Gas prices in Las Vegas have dropped 3 cents in the last week to an average of $2.70 per regular gallon.Survey: How Have Rising Gas Prices Affected You?When it comes to air travel, the agency predicts plenty of deals on airfare, which are down 16 percent from 2008. That could help increase passenger traffic at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas.“The Mountain West is the only region in the country expecting a growth in travel numbers,” said AAA spokesperson Michael Geeser. “This may be because of low unemployment numbers in the area compared to the rest of the country.”Nationwide, travel is expected to decline 1.9 percent from last year.
