LAS VEGAS -- Sen. John Ensign’s affair with a married staff member has drawn an ethics complaint from the group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.In a statement released to FOX5, CREW accused Ensign of violating ethics rules based on severance payments made to his mistress, Cynthia Hampton, and her husband’s claims the couple was fired because of the affair.CREW also called for an investigation into whether Ensign misused campaign funds when making payments to Cynthia Hampton.Survey: Would You Vote To Re-Elect Sen. John Ensign?Ensign admitted to the affair last week, saying he was “truly sorry” and telling reporters the Hampton’s were “close friends.”Doug Hampton has been accused of seeking monetary payments from the senator, fueling speculation that an extortion attempt forced Ensign to admit to the affair.“Sen. Ensign has replaced Sens. David Vitter and Larry Craig (R-ID) as the latest poster senator for bad judgment and hypocrisy,” said the executive director for CREW, Melanie Sloan.
