LAS VEGAS -- Cynthia Hampton lives in Las Vegas and she is a Republican. The similarities to Sen. John Ensign’s mistress end there.Yet, that hasn’t stopped her phone from ringing nonstop since Ensign admitted to an affair with a woman that shares Hampton’s name.“I have this one friend, John, who called me and said ‘I knew you were into a lot of things Cynthia, but I can’t imagine you running around with a senator,’” Hampton joked in an interview with FOX5.Hampton can laugh about the coincidence when she’s at home, but it’s a different story when she ventures out in public.Survey: Would You Vote To Re-Elect Sen. John Ensign?“I was buying something and I had to give my identification, and the girl looked at me and said ‘Ooooh,’” Hampton said, “I had to say ‘I’m not that Cynthia.’”The public hasn’t gotten a glimpse of Ensign’s mistress in the last week. Only her husband, Doug, has come out of the couple’s house to release a brief statement to the media.Doug Hampton has been accused of demanding money from Ensign’s camp, fueling speculation that an extortion attempt forced the senator to come forward.Despite the fact that the “other” Cynthia Hampton has been married for 44 years, she said Ensign’s affair is going to draw attention, even from close friends.“We didn’t want to go to church Sunday,” she said, “Because everyone knows us there and I know no one would come up and ask me, but I know they would all be whispering.”
