US Airways Takes Hardest Hit

Recession-weary travelers opted not to fly into southern Nevada last month, further driving down passenger traffic at McCarran Airport.

Slightly more than 3.5 million travelers passed through the airport in May, an 11.5 percent decline from the same month last year.

US Airways suffered the biggest drop in passengers, down 30.6 percent last month. The airline recently announced it would be cutting 300 jobs from Las Vegas and Phoenix in an effort to save money amid declining revenues.

Overall, passenger numbers at McCarran Airport are down 11.9 percent from 2008.
