LAS VEGAS -- Gas prices are on the rise in Las Vegas and across the country. The cost of a gallon of gas has increased for 50 straight days. The streak sets a new record going back to 1996, when AAA first began keeping that statistic. The national average price is $2.68 per gallon.A local expert explained the sharp rise.“In Las Vegas they're up 44 cents from a month ago, today. They've really gone through the roof, not because of supply and demand issues, but because investors have sunk money into oil -- which has pushed the price of crude up, and gas prices have in turn followed," said AAA spokesman Michael Geeser. To find the lowest gas prices in the Valley, check out our Pump Patrol section.
