LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Friday announced that it has completed its investigation into the May 7 wreck that killed two-year veteran Officer James Manor. In a news release, Metro investigators said Manor’s police cruiser was traveling at a speed of 109 mph when it collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Calvin Darling, of Las Vegas at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Ravenwood Drive.Police said the pickup was making a left turn when it pulled out in front of the police cruiser. However, investigators said Manor was traveling at a speed that was both unsafe and unreasonable, and that was the primary cause of the wreck.Authorities dismissed all charges against Darling Friday. Police initially arrested Darling on suspicion of driving under the influence and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Darling was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Monday.Metro investigators said they have also examined the actions of the 14-year-old girl who placed the call that prompted the rapid response by Manor. Based on their investigation, police said they determined the girl committed no criminal actions and will not be charged in the incident.Sheriff Doug Gillespie said the LVMPD places the highest priority on the safety of both citizens and officers as they respond to calls, and that the department's driving policies and drivers training procedures are currently under review. Gillespe described Manor's speed as "both unsafe and unreasonable."
