Officer Killed: 911 Tapes From False Call Released

No Charges Filed Against Girl Who Called Police

Las Vegas Metro police have released 911 recordings from the night Officer James Manor was killed in a car wreck, in which a teenage girl and her mother can be heard arguing over what police said was a phony report of domestic violence.

On the recording, a 14-year-old girl calls 911 twice to report she is being abused by her stepfather.

“He got mad at me because my sister was throwing a big huge fit, and he started beating me,” the girl said.

Midway through the second call, someone can be heard banging on a door in the background. The girl told the operator it was her stepfather and he was going to hurt her; then the call is disconnected.

A third call comes from the girl’s mother, who told the operator her daughter made a phony report and had tried to lock her out of the house.

“My daughter has anger issues,” the woman said. “I was going to try and get her some help.”

The mother said her daughter had not been abused and had hit her 7-year-old sister. She said her daughter was recently kicked out of her brother’s home and her grandmother’s home.

“The stepdad is scared to death because she’s been lying,” she said when the operator told her police were on the way.

“That’s fine -- have officers come, but my daughter’s the one who has to get some help,” the mother said.

“We still have to send officers out,” the operator answered.

A short time later, the operator asked, “They’re not there yet?” to which the mother replied, “No.”

Officer James Manor was on his way to that call when his police cruiser collided with a pickup truck driven by 45-year-old Calvin Darling.

An investigation found Manor was driving 109 mph down Flamingo Road before the crash. Manor was not wearing a seat belt and did not have his emergency lights or sirens on.

No one has been charged for making the false 911 call.
