LAS VEGAS -- The attorney for Calvin Darling called the accident that killed Las Vegas Metro Police Officer James Manor “unfortunate” but said “thankfully police came forth” with the circumstances that preceded his death.“Calvin Darling is a hard working, honest and devoted family man,” said attorney Sean Sullivan, who added that his client wishes to return to his life before the May 7 crash.Darling himself has only released one statement, in which he insisted he saw no lights or sirens before his pickup collided with Manor’s police cruiser. Those details were proven true Wednesday when Sheriff Doug Gillespie revealed details of an investigation that found Manor was driving 109 mph with no lights and sirens before the accident. Manor was not wearing a seatbelt. It’s still unclear whether Darling will face any charges in the case. Blood-alcohol tests showed he was not intoxicated at the time of the crash. The 0.035 reading was well below the legal limit of 0.08.At Wednesday’s news conference, Gillespie said he “would not support” charging Darling with failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
