LAS VEGAS -- Like many of her neighbors, Tarin Marvel heard the collision that killed Las Vegas Metro Police Officer James Manor. She did not hear any sirens, a fact police confirmed this week.“There were five of us. We knew what we saw and heard,” Marvel said, adding that she can hear emergency sirens every day from her home near Flamingo Road.On the morning of May 7, she said “there was nothing.”When Manor’s police cruiser collided with Calvin Darling’s pickup truck, Marvel said she saw Darling climb out of the wreckage and try to free the trapped officer.“If you’re drunk, you’re not going to climb out of your mangled truck and try to help,” she said.Marvel’s opinion echoes that of a number of FOX5 viewers. In the wake of revelations that Manor was driving 109 mph, with no lights or sirens and without a seat belt, 93 percent of respondents told FOX5's Web site poll that Darling should not be charged in the accident. After hearing of Manor’s circumstances, Marvel was not surprised, and said she knew Darling was not responsible.“They made him out to be some horrible drunk driving villain, and he was just trying to go home from work,” she said.
