LAS VEGAS -- Calvin Darling, the Las Vegas man charged in the wreck that killed a Las Vegas police officer, broke his silence Monday in a statement released to FOX5.In the statement, released by attorney Sean Sullivan, Darling expresses his “deepest sympathy” to the family of Officer James Manor.Recalling the night of the accident, Darling insisted that as he turned left into the oncoming traffic lane of Flamingo Road, he could not hear or see emergency lights from Manor’s police cruiser.Metro police said both were operational as Manor responded to a domestic violence call.Darling said after the collision, he got out of his pickup and tried to help Manor, who was trapped in his vehicle. The statement makes no mention of Darling’s admission that he had drank “three or four” beers at a bar shortly before the accident. Police charged him with felony drunken driving, but the Clark County District Attorney postponed filing formal charges after learning that Darling blood-alcohol content was below the legal limit.Darling was released from jail Friday night.“It is wrong for anyone to rush to judgment or pre-judge Mr. Darling,” the statement read.
