Police: Driver Who Hit Vegas Officer Was Drunk
45-Year-Old Has No Prior Criminal Record, Facing Felony Drunken Driving Charges

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Metro police Sheriff Doug Gillespie said the driver whose pickup truck collided with a police cruiser was drinking before the accident.Calvin Darling, 45, will be charged with felony drunken driving and a misdemeanor charge of failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.Darling has no criminal record. The photo provided by police comes from his DMV records.Darling’s pickup truck was making a left turn when it slammed into Officer James Manor’s police cruiser early Thursday morning. Darling was able to escape his vehicle, but Manor was trapped and died later at University Medical Center.Gillespie said Manor’s emergency lights and sirens were switched on at the time of the accident.Darling is recovering from his injuries at University Medical Center and will be booked into jail when he is released.
