LAS VEGAS -- Having lost out on a bid for a $5 tax on legal and illegal prostitution, one Nevada brothel owner has adopted a new strategy. If you can’t join em, beat em.Kenneth Green, owner of the Chicken Ranch brothel in Pahrump, launched an effort Friday to regulate or eliminate illegal prostitution, saying the industry costs Nevada billions of dollars in untaxed income.“What we have today is an unacceptable situation. It’s embarrassing to our community,” Green told FOX5, while announcing his Web site, RegulatedManagement.com.The site calls on Las Vegans to “let your voice be heard” in the fight against illegal prostitution.Earlier this month, the Chicken Ranch was part of an effort to push through SB369, a bill to place an industry-wide tax on individual sex acts. Critics argued the tax on illegal acts made the bill impossible to enforce and it died in a state Senate committee.Green admitted Friday that illegal prostitution does cut into business at the Chicken Ranch, located about 60 miles from Las Vegas. When asked what he thought should be done, Green said the industry should be regulated but added that it’s in the hands of state lawmakers to “propose some solution.”
