LAS VEGAS -- Pulte Homes, one of the largest home builders in southern Nevada, is buying rival Centex Corp. for $1.3 billion in stock.The transaction will create the biggest home construction company in America and expand Pulte’s reach in real estate markets that have not suffered the same fate as the Las Vegas valley."It allows us to not only survive, but thrive in any economic climate," said Richard Dugas Jr., Pulte's president and chief executive.In southern Nevada, Pulte Homes is behind two of the 15 projects that exceed 300 acres, Stallion Mountain and the Stallion Mountain Country Club. Those rankings come from the 2009 Las Vegas Perspective.
