No Trace Of Missing Mother, Sick Baby

Police Won't Reveal Newborn's Illness

A woman who gave birth to a sick baby under a false name continues to avoid authorities and refuses to seek help for the child.

That’s according to North Las Vegas police, who said Thursday there is no trace of Janette Nelson and nothing they can do other than alert the public to her situation.

Nelson checked herself into North Vista Hospital February 9 under the name Rochelle Brown. She gave birth to a girl and left before doctors could tell her the baby has a severe infectious disease.

Police believe she is deliberately refusing to seek help, but would not elaborate on what type of illness the child suffers from or whether there is an immediate danger to the public.

Nelson was last seen in the area near Civic Center Drive and Cheyenne Avenue in North Las Vegas.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Dave Molnar at 702-633-1779 or Crimestoppers at 702-385-5555.
