LAS VEGAS -- A man with a beef against his girlfriend's mother is accused in a killing and attempted suicide.

The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon in the 1400 block of East Reno Avenue, near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway.

The woman, Sophie Jozwiak, 84, of Las Vegas, was killed just before the suspect, John Delong, shot himself in the face.

Police said the shooting was a result of an argument. Investigators said they hope to get answers about the argument from witnesses.

Delong was transported to an area hospital Thursday night for treatment. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in absentia.

Investigators said despite the killing, domestic violence does not appear to be on the rise.
