Plane On Fire Lands Safely

FAA: Plane Catches Fire After Taking Off From McCarran

A plane with an engine fire has landed safely at McCarran Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Southwest Airlines flight 273 left McCarran at 3:09 p.m. bound for Islip, N.Y. The fire began immediately after takeoff, and the plane turned around to land at McCarran, the FAA said.

The FAA said the plane landed safely at about 3:30 p.m.

There were 116 passengers on board the plane.

The fire was on the right side of the engine.
