An electrical problem aboard a Southwest Airlines flight has sent six people to a Las Vegas hospital.

Flight 756 from Kansas City landed safety at 5:18 p.m. Thursday at McCarran Airport and parked away from the terminal as emergency personnel responded.

Metro police Lt. Loren Napier said a wire in the rear of the plane began sparking and arcing, creating an electrical smell that some passengers thought was pepper spray.

Six of the 116 passengers are being treated at Desert Springs Hospital for irritation to the face, eyes and nasal passages from the fumes.

The remaining passengers and crew were bused to the terminal.

Airport spokesman Chris Jones said the plane's crew reported the smell about 20 minutes before it landed.

A Southwest West spokeswoman said the airline is investigating.
