A 1-year-old boy has died after he and a 3-year-old boy fell into a pool at a home day care, said North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon.

Coon said both boys were taken to University Medical Center Trauma. The 3-year-old was conscious, but the 1-year-old was in critical condition at the time, and it was announced he died shortly before 5 p.m.

Police said the 3-year-old is in good condition.

The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. at Mariselas Family Day Care at 4731 Gunlock Circle, near Decatur Boulevard and Lone Mountain Road.

Police said the day care is a licensed in-home business. A cease and desist order has been given to the day care to stop any and all childcare activities pending the outcome of the investigation.

Both sets of parents have been notified, and the children are not related, according to police.

Police said all of the other children at the day care have been picked up by parents.

They are reminding people with pools that children need to be watched near pools, even in the wintertime.
