Police have made headway in the investigation of the kidnapping of Cole Puffinburger. A third person of interest was arrested on Tuesday.

Jose Lopez-Buelna was taken into custody for illegal weapons charges.

Police said he may be connected to Puffinburger's kidnapping.

According to police reports, Lopez-Buelna is an illegal immigrant with a history with law enforcement. Reports show he was convicted of felony drug trafficking in California in 1997. He was deported back to Mexico in 2003.

Police have not yet said how Lopez-Buelna was involved in the kidnapping, but they said he is a person of interest in this case.

"From the moment we were notified, this investigation has been about a kidnapping. A 6-year-old child was taken from his home in a very violent fashion. Now that the child has been found, the focus of the investigation shifted to drug dealing, extortion," said Metro Capt. Vincent Cannito.

Police and federal officials said they're following up on dozens of leads. No official charges have been filed yet.

Two others were detained, Puffinburger's grandfather, Clemons Tinnemeyer, and his girlfriend. They're in custody as witnesses in the investigation.

Police are still searching for Puffinburger’s abductors.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
