LAS VEGAS -- Police said a 6-year-old is missing because his family was involved in illegal drug activity.

Cole Puffinburger was kidnapped Wednesday morning from his house near Lake Mead and Hollywood.

As it approached 40 hours since his abduction, police said they had many leads coming in.

"This is involving a very violent takeover robbery and kidnapping of 6-year-old Cole Puffinburger," said Metro Capt. Vincent Cannito.

Metro police and a number of agencies like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are searching for Puffinburger.

"We need to make sure every lead is followed up on," Cannito said.

Police said three Hispanic men pretending to be police officers committed a home invasion. They said the men tied up Puffinburger's mother and her fiancée, searched for money and ended up taking Puffinburger.

"At this time, we are confident in saying this kidnapping has a definite drug nexus … involved with the family," Cannito said.

Police said one of the men stood about 5 feet 7 inches and 150 pounds and in his early 30s. A second man was 5 feet 9 inches, thin and was wearing a vertical striped shirt.

"As far as ransoms, there's some developing information we'll continue to follow up on," Cannito said.

Police said they continue to get a number of leads from around the country, and they won't give up until Puffinburger is back with his family.

Police said they have roughly 100 detectives working on the investigation on a 24-hour cycle.
