The family of a teenager stabbed to death is speaking out.

Richard Leroy Martinez, 17, died after he was stabbed in a fight.

Now, the search is on for his killer.

Family and friends gathered in the street where Martinez was stabbed to make a memorial for him.

"He was always the one to make me feel better, hug, and tell me everything is going to be OK. Now, I don't have that," said Kayleigh Ischo, Martinez’s sister.

Ischo, 17, fought back tears. She said she can't believe her younger brother was stabbed to death.

"Crying is the only thing that's working right now," she said.

The alleged killer is one of Martinez’s friends. Metro police said they think Steven Hogue, 16, is the killer.

"That's what I don't understand … can't believe that’s the person who did it," Ischo said.

She said your typical teenage gossip erupted into a fight and the other teenager pulled a knife. Martinez was stabbed once and tried to get away. She said he tripped where his memorial is now and was stabbed several more times.

"I think it was ridiculous. I think it was over something that could be talked about," Ischo said.

Ischo said her younger brother use to hang out with friends every day in the area where he was killed. She said she never thought one of those friends would be accused of killing him.

She said he was getting his GED and was ready to join the Army.

"He wanted to be able to fight for his country -- have something in his life to be proud of," Ischo said.

Metro police said Hogue’s nickname is “Hoagie” and that they're still looking for him.

The family said all it wants is the accused to come forward.

Hogue, 16, is white, approximately 6 feet tall and has long black hair. Police said he dresses in goth clothing and has piercings in his lips and nose.

Anyone with information on Hogue’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
