LAS VEGAS -- The hot topic of Thursday night's vice presidential debate was how Sarah Palin would handle the pressure with the eyes of the country upon her.Viewers in Las Vegas said she held her own, for the most part.Palin took a lot of criticism with her recent national interviews over the past couple of weeks and the heavy coaching she reportedly received. Some people said she did great.
And some customers at the Roadrunner Saloon just played a little bingo.Palin Bingo is what the group Drinking Liberally decided to play while watching the debate. Whenever Palin said a word, the players marked off a spot.“The bingo is not the purpose of the get together. People like to watch debates,” said Drinking Liberally member Linda Turner. That group was Sen. Joe Biden backers, but when it came to Palin’s performance, they gave her some credit.“Well I expected with all the buzz ... She’s very personable. She can put ideas across, but if you really pay attention to the content, she sidesteps the hard questions, and she contradicts herself,” Turner said.Others at the Roadrunner felt Palin controlled the debate.“Sarah's my girl ... I think Biden is a little bit heated. She's calm, cool and collected,” said Vicki Kidson, who was visiting the Valley from Michigan.“I think Palin is definitely the right person for the John McCain ticket ... I like her down-homeness. She talks from her heart, which I think is great,” said 13-year Las Vegas resident Lorie Schlichting.Biden took a back seat to all the buzz surrounding the governor from Alaska, but when it came time to speak, people said he stuck to the subjects.“He's been right on the money on what he’s been saying. He hasn't been jumping off other subjects trying to hide what he doesn’t know,” said David Black-Downes.“I think he's very skilled. He debated Hillary Clinton. He's debated lots of women in his life,” Turner said. The topic of gender never really came up. No one at the Roadrunner noticed it.
