LAS VEGAS -- After testifying against her husband in his assault and attempted murder hearing, suspended District Judge Elizabeth Halverson said it will take her a while to recover from her injuries. That's what she told the Review-Journal outside the courthouse Tuesday.Halverson appeared before a grand jury investigating allegations that her husband attacked her with a frying pan, hitting her multiple times on the head.Edward Halverson, 49, is being held in connection with attempted murder and battery with substantial bodily harm charges. He is still in the Clark County Detention Center on $113,000, pending his preliminary hearing Thursday. After the Sept. 4 attack, Elizabeth Halverson spent three weeks in the hospital. While there, she had a surgery to repair her fractured skull that required about 100 staples to suture, said family friend Bobbi Tackett.Halverson did not give a time period for her rehabilitation. She's been suspended from the bench since July 2007, after she was accused of mishandling trials, mistreating staff and falling asleep on the bench. She blames colleagues and other employees for the complaints. The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline filed 14 formal charges and declared that she posed a threat to the public or the administration of justice.Halverson recently lost a primary bid for re-election and has been awaiting a decision from the commission on whether to sanction her or permanently bar her from the bench. She has received her $130,000 annual salary while on suspension. Her disciplinary hearing has been postponed for a month in response to her injury.
