LAS VEGAS -- Suspended Judge Elizabeth Halverson's husband has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder.Edward Halverson is accused of attacking the embattled judge with a frying pan Thursday night. Some neighbors said they believed Edward Halverson finally snapped after years of alleged verbal abuse.Halverson, 49, was arrested Thursday night on allegations he tried to kill his wife.“What happened last night didn't surprise me, because she's very controlling, and he just snapped,” said neighbor Shianne MacGregor.Metro police said just before 11 p.m., the judge called 911 saying that her husband was going to beat her to death. When police arrived at the couple's home near Tropicana Avenue and U.S. 95, investigators said they found Elizabeth Halverson in her bedroom with severe injuries to the face, chest and upper arms.Detectives said Edward Halverson's weapon of choice was a frying pan.The diabetic judge was taken to Sunrise Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.“I've seen her act bad to him, but I've never seen him give her attitude, talk back to her, before,” MacGregor said. The Halversons have dealt with a lot public criticism recently. Last year, their dirty yard made headlines. Last month, the judge faced the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission on charges of misconduct.Edward Halverson was by her side in court almost every day.“He waited on her hand-and-foot. I mean, she needed to be taken care of, and he loved her enough to do that,” said neighbor Jacque Gruger. The Halversons have been married for 10 years.Neighbors said between the alleged verbal abuse and the judge's suspension last year, things took a turn for the worse.“I think he just got tired of her treating him that way, because he makes her food, he cleans the house, or kind of cleans the house. I think he just got tired of it,” MacGregor said.Edward Halverson has a long rap sheet. He's been arrested at least 10 times and served four years in prison for cocaine possession. He is charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and battery with substantial bodily harm. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
