Metro police said the husband of suspended Nevada state Judge Elizabeth Halverson has been jailed in the Clark County Detention Center on attempted murder and domestic violence charges after an incident at their home in Las Vegas.

Police arrested Edward Lee Halverson, 49, who was being held Friday pending a court appearance on felony attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and battery with substantial bodily harm charges.

Police said Elizabeth Halverson is in intensive care after surgery at a Las Vegas hospital.

Police said they received a 911 call from Elizabeth Halverson, who stated she needed help because someone was beating her up. She then said her husband was going to beat her to death.

Police forced entry into the Halverson residence in the 4100 block of Oxnard Circle, where they said they found Edward Halverson in the living room area.

They said they then found Elizabeth Halverson in the rear bedroom of the house. They said she had severe injuries to her face, chest and upper arms. She told police her husband had beaten her up and tried to kill her.

Officers said they determined Edward Halverson used a frying pan to severely injure his wife.

Edward Halverson served four years of a 10-year prison sentence and was paroled in 2000. He has been in trouble with the law over the years on drugs, weapons and burglary charges, beginning in the 1980s, according to court records.

There had been no prior record of domestic violence in the Halverson household before the incident.

Elizabeth Halverson was suspended in July 2007 and recently lost a primary bid for re-election.

She's been awaiting a decision from the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline about whether she'll be permanently barred from the bench.

The disciplinary panel wrapped up two weeks of hearings last month on allegations that Halverson slept on the bench and belittled her bailiff.

During the hearings, an allegation was made by her bailiff that she told him she wanted to have her husband killed.
