LAS VEGAS -- One woman is dead after being stabbed in the neck by another woman at the registration desk of Bally’s hotel and casino on the Strip, Metro police said.

Officer Jose Montoya said the 22-year-old victim collapsed just outside the valet entrance at Bally's.

The victim was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after the 6 a.m. Friday attack.

Montoya said neither woman was a hotel guest. He said investigators are trying to determine if they live in the Las Vegas area, whether they knew each other and what prompted the fatal argument.

He said police and hotel security officers are interviewing witnesses and checking hotel security video.

The assailant was described as black and in her early 20s. She was last seen wearing dark clothing.

A spokeswoman for Bally's owner, Harrah's Entertainment Inc., declined to comment.
