The pilot killed when his plane crashed into a neighborhood came from a family of aviators, according to his mother.

During an interview with the Review-Journal, the mother of William Leahy Jr., Jean, said her son died doing what he loved.

Leahy, 38, was the only person in the Piper Navajo Chieftain on Thursday when it crashed into the garage of a two-story house just a half-mile from a North Las Vegas Airport runway, police said.

The five people in the house at the time of the crash escaped serious injury.

It was the second plane to hit a house near the airport in less than a week. The first was a week ago, killing three people.
