The brother of a pilot killed in a fatal plane crash Thursday spoke to FOX5.

William Leahy Jr., 38, died after authorities said he crashed his small airplane into a northwest Las Vegas house.

Leahy’s brother said the crash was a complete shock. The crash is raising questions about safety.

Michael Leahy, the brother of William Leahy, better known as Bill to family and friends, said he is in disbelief and is grieving the loss of his brother.

He described Bill as a loving husband and father of three. Leahy was killed when his twin-engine Piper Navajo crashed into a northwest Las Vegas home.

"I certainly know he did everything in his capabilities to injure no one, including himself," Michael Leahy said.

The question is -- why was this Redwood City, Calif., native flying into North Las Vegas airport?

"As far as the plane that crashed, it was on its way to Palo Alto … Whatever it was, commercial or humanitarian, I don't have that info right now," Leahy said.

He's waiting on the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation and any information from the Federal Aviation Administration on possible mechanical or flight path issues.

This was the second fatal plane crash in the Valley in less than a week.

"There's no overnight solution. Anything that could happen would clearly take congressional action," said Clark County’s director of aviation, Randall Walker. "We have always recommended that it is not wise to put homes close to an airport, particularly right under the flight path.”

He said directing pilots when to take off and land falls under the FAA, and from their standpoint, the FAA has also operated North Las Vegas airport safely.

Michael Leahy said his brother had flown for more than 20 years in every type of situation, and that’s why his death comes as such a shock.
