Ensign Says He's Glad McCain Picked 'Somebody Nobody Expected'

Quickly after Sen. John McCain announced his vice presidential pick, Nevada Sen. John Ensign weighed in on how the nomination could affect the state of Nevada.

On Friday afternoon, Ensign said he's been pushing the McCain campaign to bring “somebody nobody expected” onto the ticket. Ensign said he is pleased with McCain’s pick.

When asked about Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin's inexperience in office, he said he'd rather have the inexperience at vice president, unlike the Democrats, who he said have the inexperience coming on top of the ticket, Sen. Barack Obama.

Fresh was a word he used when talking about the fact she's a woman and only 44 years old.

He called her a conservative and a reformer and said that she'll bring in some of those voters that were dedicated to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As far as Nevada is concerned, Palin knows the West, being governor from Alaska.

Ensign said to plan on her making a trip to southern Nevada in the near future.
