LAS VEGAS -- Metro is responding to a story that received a lot of attention Monday night.A state assemblyman is pushing for a law that would allow homeowners to use deadly force against an intruder, whether he or she is retreating or not.Metro said it will enforce the law if it's passed, but officers do have some strong advice for homeowners. The Castle Doctrine makes it legal for homeowners to defend their homes -- without a duty to retreat.
That means for anyone with a gun or other weapon can kill a home invader without any warning if the law is passed. But metro said before purchasing a firearm or even thinking of keeping one at home, homeowners should take a safety course.“More bad than good can happen by having that. A scalpel doesn’t make you a doctor. A saw doesn't make you a carpenter. And just merely having a gun at home does not make you a prepared citizen to defend yourself. You need to know how to use it, when to use it and when not to use it,” said Officer Jay Rivera.Metro also said to make sure firearms are kept in a safe place away from children with a gun lock on them for extra protection.
