LAS VEGAS -- There’s a popular phrase that says "A man's home is his castle." One Valley lawmaker is trying to get a new law passed that goes even further to protect homes and homeowners’ rights. It's called the Castle Doctrine, and it's been passed in more than a dozen states, but not without some controversy. The law would allow homeowners to use deadly force on a home intruder, with no regard to whether he or she's retreating.During FOX5 Live In Las Vegas, we asked viewers to comment on the proposed legislation. Below are some of their opinions.

RANT: I am ecstatic about this proposal. It's nice to see things shift to protect the victim rather than the attacker. I pray it goes through!
NAME: Pete
RANT: This law should be passed immediately! Having been a police officer for 30 years in California, there should be no question whether this law should be passed or not. The level of violence of people coming into another's house for criminal purposes has risen like a "hot stock market". The protection of civil and criminal liability for the homeowner should be codified. We should not have to worry if we are going to be "judged by 12 or carried by six."
NAME: Mechelle
RANT: I moved here from California and, after I received my gun license, the sheriff that trained me said, “If someone breaks into your home, you must first call 911, to let them know you have an intruder. Then you can tell the intruder, 'Stop. I have a gun, leave or I will shoot.” This is the only way to protect you from charges, per the Sheriff. By the time I run to the phone I could be dead. My husband travels a lot which leaves my daughter and I alone. I refuse to be a victim! I will shoot first and ask questions later. In closing I am all for the bill. Why should you break into my castle and then claim to be the victim. PLEASE!
NAME: Dr. J
RANT: I am in complete support for this proposal. No one has a right to break into our homes, to think they can steal from us and not have any retribution for their acts. If someone breaks in to my house -- bill or no bill -- if I am home, the intruder will either see the barrel of my gun or the blade of my samurai sword. Both end with the intruder seriously injured.
NAME: Sallie
RANT: I refuse to allow any one to threaten my babies safety or take the things I wake up at butts crack of dawn to afford for them. I'm also pregnant, so I'm not able to struggle. I'm shooting first and taking names later!
