Lowering gas prices, renewable energy and "going green" are hot button issues across the U.S., and thanks to a summit at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Beginning Monday evening, residents and political officials will be able to speak their minds and learn information at the National Clean Energy Summit.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., former President Bill Clinton, oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg are expected to attend.

Reid, who helped organize the event, said the bipartisan convention is to develop meaningful plans to use more renewable energy.

Organizers hope the event will influence and inspire presidential candidates as they head into the November elections, and Reid was keen to have the summit in Nevada because he feels it is the perfect place to search for energy alternatives.

"You have ideal conditions for wind and solar energy across the state," Reid said. "(Starting the efforts) in Las Vegas (will help to) to raise the capital."

Former President Clinton will kick off the event Monday at 5 p.m. with his opening remarks.

Tickets for attendants are sold out, but FOX5 News will have the highlights during the 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts.
