Halverson Trial Expected To Wrap Up

Suspended Judge Says Staff E-mailed Plans To Ruin Her

The disciplinary hearing for suspended Judge Elizabeth Halverson was expected to wrap up Friday, and the commission may have a decision whether she stays on the bench or goes.

Halverson testified Thursday that the allegations stem from court staff who are just out to get her.

Three of the 14 misconduct charges against Halverson were dropped Thursday, but the most serious still remain, including allegations of sexual harassment and improper contact with a jury.

On the stand Thursday, Halverson testified she got wind of e-mails sent back and forth between court staff that they were out to ruin her, even though there was no evidence to do so.

On the sexual harassment charge, Halverson's attorney said the only slight evidence of that is when Halverson put her around his seat in the car they were riding in at one time.

Halverson also testified that at least one of her former staffers is just angry because she got fired for alleged ticket fixing.

On the charge of having lunch with a jury that was deciding one of her cases, Halverson did not deny that. She said it was a mistake.

Halverson does deny allegations she also made racial slurs to one of her staff members, even though she called him a faux Jew. She said she only meant that he should participate more in his religion.
