LAS VEGAS -- She was voted out of office a couple of days ago, but the disciplinary hearing picked up again Thursday morning for suspended Judge Elizabeth Halverson. It was stopped on Friday after she had a diabetic attack.Halverson is accused of misconduct, which includes falling asleep on the bench.Even after the diabetic episode, Halverson indicated to the discipline commission that she was OK to continue, but the commission voted against it, just to be on the safe side.Halverson was less than an hour into her hearing last Friday when the hypoglycemic attack came on.She said she blames her diabetes on the misconduct accusation of falling asleep or being unconscious when she was on the stand. She's also accused of humiliating one of her bailiffs by asking him for foot rubs and to spy on other court staff. In all, there are 14 counts. The only count Halverson said was a mistake is having lunch with a jury that was deciding one of her cases. When asked whether the judge was healthy enough to be on the bench given Friday's scare, she said, "I don't think people with diabetes should not hold office. I think anyone who makes that ridiculous statement has no consideration for half the people of this country."The disciplinary hearing is expected to last Thursday and Friday. If the seven-member commission decides she is not fit to be a judge, then she is out.If the commission decides she can return to the bench, then she'll only serve until January. She finished third in Tuesday's primary and won't be on the ballot in November.
