Testimony Continues In Judge's Hearing

Defense Says Prosecutor's Witnesses May Help Their Case

It's back to the disciplinary board for suspended Judge Elizabeth Halverson.

Her efforts to stop the proceedings failed. A federal judge denied her request for a restraining order on Wednesday.

Halverson is accused of misconduct while serving as a district judge, including ordering a former bailiff to rub her feet and sleeping on the bench.

Testimony continued Wednesday and started back up Thursday morning.

The defense said some of the witnesses called by prosecutors could be helping their case.

"We have several witnesses, prosecution witnesses, who came with evidence .... that I think was actually good for us," said Halverson attorney Michael Schwartz.

Halverson was suspended more than a year ago but still collects her $130,000 a year paycheck.

The panel can either reinstate her or permanently remove her from the bench after this week's hearings.
