LAS VEGAS -- After two days of meetings, the Clark County School District Board of School Trustees voted to postpone a construction bond issue, which removes it from the November ballot. The decision came after careful consideration of latest growth projections and considerable input from the public, officials said. The economic downturn, combined with slowing student enrollment, 4,000 students leaving the district and problems with the state budget, were the reasons for the delay, officials said. The 1998 bond provided for construction of more than 100 schools and countless renovations at existing campuses. While they did delay the bond issue, the board did approve an extension of the 1998 bond plan to continue school construction and renovation for two more years in preparation for the bond question on the ballot in 2010.
