LAS VEGAS -- A woman killed in an apartment fire has been identified by the Clark County Coroner's office.Rhonda Rae Stuckey, 50, died of smoke and soot inhalation Sunday. She was found on the floor, next to her dead cat, in her apartment in the 2700 block of West Serene Avenue."We were in the pool and heard an explosion," neighbor Jaycee Mateus said. "We couldn't see much -- just black smoke."
Some other neighbors attempted to put out the flames with fire extinguishers, firefighters said, but the smoke was so thick, they could not get into Stuckey's apartment. The fire could have spread faster because there was a lot of clutter in the home, the men added."At this point, it's hard to speculate if the fire was contained to the back bedroom," said Scott Allison with the fire department. "We don't know what was burning."Crews said the fire could have started in the kitchen because it appeared to be burning for awhile when they arrived.
