Jeffs 'Feverish, Shaking' Before Hospitalization

LAS VEGAS -- Warren Jeffs is in a Valley hospital after prison officials noticed the former sect leader was feverish and shaky, according to Mohave County officials.On Tuesday, Jeffs was brought to Sunrise Hospital, the closest facility to the Kingman, Ariz., prison where he is being held awaiting trial on charges of sexual misconduct.While at the prison, Jeffs became lethargic, began running a high fever and became shaky to the point of convulsing, Arizona authorities said.He was taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center, where it was determined he needed to be brought to Sunrise Hospital.
Jeffs was convicted in November of two charges of rape as an accomplice in Utah. Police said the former leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints coerced a then-14-year-old girl into a marriage with her 19-year-old cousin.He currently faces 10 felony incest and sexual conduct with a minor charges in Arizona for arranging the marriages of two teenage girls to older men, Mohave County authorities said.While awaiting sentencing after his Utah trial, Jeffs attempted to hang himself, refused to drink or eat, banged his head on the wall, threw himself into walls and developed ulcers on his knees from praying, police said.Mohave County, Ariz., authorities have taken over Jeffs surveillance at Sunrise Hospital, Metro police said. They do not know how long he will be there.They did not say if it was an acute or chronic condition that led to the hospitalization.Jeffs is being heavily guarded in a private area.
