LAS VEGAS -- A man was arrested and charged with felony DUI for his alleged role in a fatal Monday morning crash.Police said Steven Murray, 44, slammed into a bus stop at Flamingo Road and Boulder Highway.A 51-year-old woman died in the crash, and the bus stop was destroyed.Another woman, Porshe Hughes, 26, was in critical condition Monday night.
"She catches the bus the same time every morning," said Hughes’ husband, Marktron Wallace. The women were stuck and run over by a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which police said was driven by Murray."When she was on the ground I seen her, and she was like, ‘Don't worry about me. Get the babies,’ and she's out here with her legs on the ground," Wallace said.Witnesses appeared unable to look at the scene with the truck on its side and the bus stop in pieces.Hughes, a mother of two, was sent to Sunrise Hospital."Her left leg was so messed up, they had to amputate it," Wallace said. The driver stated he was going to work and that he was cut off, causing him to veer, but witnesses' statements conflicted with Murray’s, police said. After investigating for hours, police said they suspected prescription drugs may have played a role in the crash."Come on now, we got to be more careful. If we are medicated or whatever’s going on, calm down and live by the law," Wallace said.He said his sympathies go out to the other victim. Flowers and a candle were placed at the scene of the crash.Police said they will know if prescription drugs played a role once they receive the results of blood tests.Murray was charged with felony DUI, death and felony DUI and substantial bodily harm.
