Police Say Prescription Drugs Suspected In Crash

LAS VEGAS -- The driver of a pickup truck has been arrested in connection with an early-morning bus stop crash that killed one woman and left another hospitalized in critical condition.After being treated and released from University Medical Center, Steven Murray, 44, of Las Vegas, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of felony DUI, Metro police said.Police said they suspect prescription drugs may have played a role in the crash but said they are awaiting results of a blood test submitted to their crime lab.It happened just after 5:30 a.m. at Flamingo Road and Boulder Highway.
Murray was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck northbound on Boulder Highway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a marked bus stop on the east side of Boulder Highway, where two women were waiting, police said. The car then rolled over.The women were transported to Sunrise Hospital, where one, a 51-year-old Las Vegas woman, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.Porshe Hughes, 26, of Henderson, was in critical condition at the hospital as of Monday afternoon, authorities said.The crash remains under investigation.This was the 64th fatal traffic accident in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
