A fugitive accused of marijuana trafficking was arrested in Las Vegas by U.S. marshals.

Gregg Ward, 50, was arrested Monday. He is wanted by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Steven Carpenter.

Ward is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. The charges stem from his work as a courier for a multi-ton drug distribution network based out of Phoenix, Ariz., that was shipping marijuana to the east coast, Carpenter said.

Information was developed that Ward fled to the Las Vegas area from Phoenix when he became aware of the warrant. Members of the Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team fugitive task force said they located Ward at a local casino.

Task force members said they witnessed Ward gambling at slot machines, where he was arrested without incident.

He was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center, where he is awaiting court proceedings to extradite him back to Virginia.

“The removal of fugitives from the streets of Nevada is instrumental in reducing violent crime in our communities,” U.S. Marshal Gary Orton said in a news release.
