NORTH LAS VEGAS -- Police want to make sure pedestrians are safe on the road, which is why on Friday, they targeted drivers who didn't follow the rules of the road. The North Las Vegas Police Department focused on two intersections. The first one was on East Lake Mead Boulevard and Bassler Street, which has a pedestrian island in the middle of the road. The second intersection has a marked crosswalk and is located on North Las Vegas Boulevard and North Bruce Street. Both were hand-picked because of the large amount of foot and car traffic."In this instance, I dressed in bright colors. No reason for them to miss me. And whoever does the walking always does that. But any pedestrian, no matter what, you're required to yield, as long as they give you proper notice," said Sgt. Dave Smith. The North Las Vegas Police Department received a grant from the state for Friday's event. They said they ticketed both jay-walkers and cars.
