LAS VEGAS -- There are shocking new details about what police said led to the death of a 4-year-old boy left in a hot car.The boy's parents were arrested Wednesday.Colleen and Stan Rimer face several felony counts including second-degree murder charges and child abuse and neglect. The arrest report details years of alleged abuse and neglect against several children.
On June 9, Jason Rimer was found dead in the family SUV in front of his parents' home. He had been left there for 17 hours before his brother discovered him the next morning.“Earlier this afternoon, detectives went out and arrested the parents of Jason Rimer,” said Metro police Capt. Vincent Cannito.“We want to assure you that every investigation that comes out of this department is taken with the utmost scrutiny, the utmost dedication to details and factors,” Cannito said.In the report, Colleen Rimer said at some point she knew Jason was missing and didn't bother following up.In an interview with KDWN the day after Jason was found dead, Stan Rimer said, “No one ever said anybody was missing or anything. We usually keep Sundays a quiet day, and one got away from us.”In the police report, Colleen states, "When I looked, I didn't find him either. So, I don't know why it slipped my mind."She also admitted she'd forgotten him before when he was 6 months old.“It's those details and factors that determined the outcome of this case,” said Cannito. The couple is also charged with five counts of child endangerment. The report includes graphic testimony from the daughter and the other boys saying things like Stan "kicked him with steel-toed boots" and that he "punches the children when he is mad."When investigators checked the home, they noted a dirty disarray, which included broken cabinets; old, dirty dishes and animal feces. But the report said the parents' room was "noticeably more orderly and generally clean."The Rimers are set to appear in court Friday morning.
