LAS VEGAS -- The parents of four kids removed from their home following the death of their 4-year-old son will now be allowed supervised visits. The children were taken from the home because of squalor-like conditions that were found while the 4-year-old's death was being investigated.Neither the Metro investigation into Jason Rimer's death nor the Child Protective Services investigation into whether the other four siblings were abused and neglected has been completed. But attorneys for the parents expect charges from at least one, if not both, investigations. The funeral for Jason Rimer remains on hold until his four brothers can attend.
They are still in protective custody at Child Haven. And for the first time since the siblings were removed, the parents have been granted visitation."So, they're excited? Absolutely excited. They love their children and want to see them as soon as possible," said Colleen Rimer’s attorney, Ismael Santellan.Stan and Colleen Rimer will find out whether they'll regain custody on Friday. Attorneys said they are possibly expecting lack of supervision charges related to the four children removed from the home.As for charges related to Jason Rimer being left in the family's SUV for 17 hours, “at least what I've seen so far, I don't see any basis for criminal charges," said Stan Rimer’s attorney, Lew Wolfbrandt.Attorneys said they don't know what kind of case, if any, CPS and Metro are building. Custody of the four children could also go to Stan Rimer's brother and sister-in-law, who have passed background checks. But a judge is being cautious on any release until Friday.“Is there anything that Stan and Colleen have been able to show the judge? There is no abuse and neglect. We'll have to wait and see what the DA has," Santellan said. Metro said it is confident it'll be able to forward the investigation into Jason Rimer's death to the district attorney by the end of the week for a determination on charges. Metro said it is waiting on a coroner's report and the exact cause of death. The four children in custody have given statements to CPS detailing the parenting habits of Colleen and Stan Rimer. However, those statements are being kept secret.
