Police Cancel AMBER Alert

Officers Still Searching For Man Who May Have Shot Wife

Law enforcement officials have canceled an AMBER Alert for two missing boys even though they have not found the man who abducted the children.

Luis Gonzalo Ortega, 3, and Diego Fabien Ortega, 5, were last seen the boy's home in Los Angeles just before 11 a.m. Sunday.

Diego was wearing a blue-green checkered shirt, blue jeans and white shoes. Luis was wearing a red-checkered shirt.

The boys were abducted by 27-year-old Jose Luis Ortega, police said. He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 180 pounds.

Police said Jose Ortega may have shot the boy's mother before kidnapping them.

They were last seen headed east in a 1998 Ford Ranger, with California license plate No. 7Z19738. Ortega is believed to be armed with a semiautomatic handgun.

While Jose Ortega has ties to Las Vegas, police now think he may be headed to Mexico, causing the cancellation of the alert.

Anyone with information about the boy's whereabouts is asked to contact the Nevada Highway Patrol at 775-688-2500.
